Drew Southworth
Program Director & SS Coach
Hailing from the Green Mountain State known as Vermont, Drew started his skiing career 37 years ago on the icy east coast. After calling it quits to his ski racing career, Drew started his coaching career and worked for Killington Mountain School and Killington Ski Club with the U16/U18 athletes for 3 seasons before moving out to Utah. The 2024-25 season will be Drew’s 19th season coaching, his 16th with the Brighton Ski team and 9th season as the Team’s Program Director. Drew is a U.S. Ski & Snowboard Level 100 Certified Coach. In addition to being the Program Director, Drew also holds the South Series head coaching position, where his main focus will be to work on maintaining and fine tuning the athlete’s technique and fundamentals, both in and outside of the race course. In addition to skiing and racing, Drew loves mountain biking and spending time in the great outdoors with his wife Kathy and his daughter Gabriela.
Spencer Dirats
Development Director
Spencer grew up racing in the northeast and started coaching high school athletes in 2012. In 2017, she moved to Salt Lake City, UT where she now works in Sport Education for U.S. Ski & Snowboard. Spencer is a U.S. Ski & Snowboard Level 300 Certified Coach, and the 2024-25 season will be her 8th with the Brighton Ski Team! While Spencer’s role these days is centered more around coaching the coaches and helping run the team, she’ll be on-hill working with all teams on Saturdays, up at UOP with our older athletes, and at races throughout the season.
Before her whole life revolved around skiing, Spencer had a 9-year teaching career, and her time in the classroom has strongly influenced her approach to coaching: centered around the balance between developing both the physical skills and the mental-social-emotional skills necessary to help athletes grow into healthy and fierce competitors.
